Salah satu kerjaya yang mendapat ramai penimatnya ialah kerjaya sebagai seorang pramugari.
1. Tugas Asas
Tugas as seorang pramugari atau pramugara ialah memastikan keselamatan penumpang disetiap masa. Inilah tugasan yang mewajibkan syarikat penerbangan membawa pramugari/ra semasa terbang. Tugasan lain ada lah ditambah termasuk tugas menghidang makanan dan membuat jualan kepada penumpang.
2. Ukuran Pencapaian
Ukuran pencapaian seorang anak kapal adalah agak sukar dan menjadi persoalan dibeberapa pihak. Munkin ada mudah nya hanya dengan menggunakan ukuran berasaskan 'complaint' atau compliment yang diterima. Semakin banyak pujian maka semakin tinggilah ukuran nya. Kalau sesaorang itu banyak mendapat complaint maka kuranglah pencapaian dia.
3. Struktur Jawatan Kerjaya.
Struktur nya mengikut keadaan syarikat. Dibawah dinyatakan contoh sebuah syarikat Penerbangan Antarabangsa:
a. Mula Kerja sebagai - Junior Cabin Crew - berkhidmat didalam kapal kecil seperti B737.
b. Anak Kapal Senior - Bertugas didalam kapal yang lebih besar seperti B747. Kapal ini anggap sebagai wide-body dan mempunyai 2 aisle - 2 lorong didalam cabin nya.
c. Steward/stewardess Kanan - Jawatan yang diberi kepada The crew in charge in a flight for a small aircraft.
d. Supervisors Cabin - Crew yang bertugas sebagai supervisor didalam kapal besar seperti B747.
e. Controller - Menjaga sesuatu fleet atau jenis kapal, seperti B747 atau A330. Ini mrupakan tugas dipejabat dan jarang jarang terbang.
4. Main activities
The main activities for the job of cabin crews can be divides based on the phases of the work:
a. preflight briefing - conducted for a specific flight and performed by the crew in charge.
b. Pre flight preparation - When the crew complete the briefing, they will go the aircraft. They will spend about 1 hour to prepare for the flight. They make sure the main safety equipments are in place, the demo units available, the toilets are prepared, the foods are as per listing..etc..etc.
c. Passengers' reception - they play the host to the incoming passengers, welcome them and guide them to their seats.
d. Predeparture - on pushback, the captain starts the engines, the cabin crews will do the demonstration on the use of safet equipments.
e. The dinner is served when the flight stabilize in cruise mode.
f. On landing at the destination, the cabin crew thanks the passengers and ensure that everyone go out. Then there is acheck list to follow and a report to write.
Qualification and prerequisites:
a. Education: Most airline will accept graduate out of 10 - 11 years of schooling. This is equivalent to O level in the British Education System. There are some airlines that demand higher qualification, such as Degree or Diploma.
b. Physical requirements - As the crew has to perform the safety function, he has to be able to access the equipments situated on the overhead compartment.
Working Condition
a. Crews work at odd hours, depending on the flight schedules
b. They work long hours, some flight can be 12 hours and they are expected to perform for 12 hours.
c. They crews are expected to handle passengers. Some may not be nice and can be rude to crew.
Gaji dan Imbuhan
Bergantong dengan syarikat mana anda berkerja. Biasa nya di Malaysia, MAS membayar yang tertinggi di ikuti oleh Airasia dan Firefly.
Pendapatan Pramugari terdiri dari gaji pokok, biasa nya tidak tinggi. Pramugari akan mendapat alaun yang kadang kadang lebih dari gaji.
